Our History
In June 1962, Cook Volkswagen was founded by Emery Cook. The dealership was initially located in a leased facility on Route 40 in downtown Aberdeen (where Northeastern Plumbing is now located, next to the 7/11). The Volkswagen dealership was so successful, that Cook Volkswagen built a new, larger facility in 1967 at the corner of Rt 40 and Rt 7, (1136 South Philadelphia Blvd- where the present-day Cook Chrysler Dodge Ram Mazda still resides).
In July 1976, while on a family vacation in Maine, Emery Cook was visiting a fellow Volkswagen dealer who also happened to have a Mazda franchise. Mr. Cook was so impressed with the Mazda vehicles! Upon returning home from Maine, he contacted Mazda Motors of America and applied for, and was immediately granted a franchise!
Currently, Cook Mazda is one of the oldest continuously operated Mazda franchises in the US. In 1982, another opportunity arose with the addition of Chrysler Plymouth Dodge and Ram Trucks to our Aberdeen operation.
In January of 1983 Cook Motorcars Ltd was incorporated to house all the franchises present at our Aberdeen location under one roof, which included Volkswagen, Mazda, Chrysler, Plymouth, Dodge, Ram Trucks, and used cars. The Aberdeen operation proved to be so successful that additional space was once again needed. In 1986, we celebrated the grand opening of Cook Mazda as a separate sales facility, along with numerous local and state political and business leaders.
In the year 2000, as a continued result of providing our customers with unparalleled customer support and service, we continued to grow and needed additional space. Cook Volkswagen was moved to a new state-of-the-art sales and service facility in Fallston MD.
We are honored in being hailed as an important member of the Harford County automotive community, and we take great pride in being a family-owned and operated business in our community for nearly 60 years. We strive every day to be a good neighbor in the community and a dealership that provides excellent sales and service. It was important to us in 1962 and continues to this day.
