Mazda parts

Your vehicle actually includes two types of air filters – an engine air filter and a cabin air filter. While they have different roles, they do have one thing in common: they both have limited lifespans. We’re highlighting theseMazda parts and our recommended replacement schedule at Cook Mazda.

Engine Air Filter

Your engine air filter is designed to keep dirt and other particles from collecting on your engine. By keeping your engine clean, this also helps to increase your fuel efficiency, as it keeps your engine from having to work harder than necessary.

Cabin Air Filter

On the other hand, your cabin air filter is designed to keep your cabin’s air clean. It helps keep outside pollutants, such as pollen and dust, from entering your cabin. A dirty cabin air filter can actually compromise your car’s HVAC system.

Air Filter Replacement

As your filters continue to collect more contaminants, their efficiency will diminish. In turn, this will also reduce your vehicle’s efficiency. This is why it’s so important that you regularly replace your air filters.

  • Engine Air Filter: To be replaced every 30,000 miles
  • Cabin Air Filter: To be replaced every 15,000 miles

Keep in mind, these are general recommendations. Your ideal replacement schedule depends on your vehicle, its age, and your driving patterns and conditions.

Signs of a Dirty Filter

Even with a recommended replacement schedule, it’s also important to schedule a replacement sooner if you notice your filter is dirty or is no longer working as it should. Keep an eye out for these warning signs.

  • Decreased fuel efficiency
  • Unusual engine noises
  • Black exhaust smoke
  • Musty smell
